Before you decide to become an International Sales Representative, take some time to look at this post to see if you have the personality traits to become successful in the Sales Rep. Industry. Do you have what it takes to be successful in this field?
- Confidence -Being confident is something that is very important when working in this field. It will take you a long way if you know what you are talking about and are bold when talking to clients. It’s important to be confident in this industry but even more if you are working internationally. You will be talking to people from all different walks of life, so it’s vital to have confidence with what ever task you are trying to accomplish.
- Extroverted – An extrovert is someone that is out going with what every they do. They will never be reserved when talking to people. They will always go out of their way and make the most of any situation. They will be able to make friends easy and have people trust them fast. This allows a sales representative to be willing to meet people, have good interactions with them and be able to come up with common interests. This will be good with making connections along the way.
- Resilient – Someone who resilient is a person who can go above and beyond though any obstacles that are thrown at them. They will never back down no matter how many times they fail. This is very important because there is never a perfect Sales Rep. The best people at this job are the ones that see failure and are able to preform in the face if adversity. If you don’t have this personality trait, this field of work will break you down slowly as you go.
- Attentive – Being attentive is one of the most important skills to have with this field and with any job in general. The best reps that succeed time after time again, are the ones that are focused and attentive with everything that they do. They will be attentive to the smallest detail or task that is put in front of them. This will help them see the bigger picture because of how they are able to pay attention to the fine detail. As everyday goes by, a sales rep that is attentive will act with purpose with their work. They want to do anything possible to reach their goals.
- Multitaskers – Knowing how to multitask is something that is huge when working as a International sales rep. This is because you will always being starting deals, following up on them and closing them as well. There will be so much going on at any giving time, and it will be your responsibility to be able to manage each task with precision. If you learn how to be efficient with multitasking, any company will want to hire you to work for them. They will see that you are able to do the most and be the best fit for their company.
- Good listener – If you are hoping to be successful in this career, it’s very important to be a good listener. You have to understand the customer that you are trying to sell too. Since you will be trying to work internationally, you’ll have to see how each of your clients are different from each other. That’s where being a good listener and understanding the type of person they are comes in hand. Timothy Tolan, a great salesman once said, “Great salespeople sell solutions to problems, and they do that by understanding and listening to the customer.”
- Honesty – Many people wouldn’t think that honestly is a trait that a good salesperson should have, but it’s something that is very essential to have. The worst thing to do is to fib when closing a deal and messing up the chances with that same client in the future. It could also lead in a downhill spiral because word of mouth goes around, especially when you are working with big companies. Also, don’t lie when you are selling a product because it will make you seem untrustworthy and bad to do business with.
- Upbeat and positive – Being upbeat and positive when working in this field will take you a long way. There are many people that are trying to do the same thing as you, but the thing that sets you apart is your personality. It’s easy to sell products to consumers, but what makes them want to make a deal with you is when you are different. People like to make deals with someone who is fun and grounded at the same time. It’s the perfect combination to be able to be someone who is enjoyable to be around, but have a strong sense of motivation as well.
- Accountable – Someone who shows accountability is a great trait to have when you becoming a sales rep. You will never start at the top of a company when you first begin in this career. You will have to work your way up getting countless number of sales and closing deals. Showing accountability will bring you to the top even faster. It will show that you are dependable and is someone that others can rely on. Even though you may be working alone at times, you will most likely be working for a big company and it’s important to pull your own weight.
- Sympathetic/caring – My biggest advice to you is not to be a robot and try to stand out. If you are compassionate towards the people you meet, it will take you much farther. Show some emotion when you communicate with the clients you meet. They would rather want to work with you if you are relatable and care about their desires. You will be able to come to a compromise and make more deals along the way.
